Assassin's Creed PC Requirements and Specs
Ubisoft have finally unveiled the requirements and spec figures for the long-awaited PC release of Assassin's Creed. Just a quick word of warning before you continue on to the hardware requirements compiled below: You will need a pretty beefy rig to play Assassin's Creed even at the minimum system requirements. If you thought BioShock had some pretty steep graphical requirements then you'll probably be dumbfounded when you see the requirements for the PC version of Assassin's Creed. Yikes.
In order to play this game properly, your PC MUST meet or exceed these minimum requirements:
Supported OS: Windows XP / Vista (only)
Processor: Dual core processor 2.6 GHz Intel Pentium D or AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ (Intel Core 2 Duo 2.2 GHz or AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ or better recommended)
RAM: 2 GB (3 GB recommended)
Video Card: 256 MB DirectX 10.0–compliant video card or DirectX 9.0–compliant card with Shader Model 3.0 or higher (512 MB video card recommended) (see supported list)*
Sound Card: DirectX 9.0 or 10.0 compliant sound card (5.1 sound card recommended)
DirectX Version: DirectX 10.0 libraries (included on disc)
DVD-ROM: DVD-ROM dual-layer drive
Hard Drive Space: 12 GB
Peripherals Supported: Keyboard, mouse, optional controller (Xbox 360 Controller for Windows recommended)
*Supported Video Cards at Time of Release:
ATI RADEON X1300-1950 / HD 2000 / 3000 series
NVIDIA GeForce 6600-6800 / 7 / 8 / 9 series
Laptop versions of these cards may work but are NOT supported. These chipsets are the only ones that will run this game.
NOTICE: This game contains technology intended to prevent copying that may conflict with some disc and virtual drives.
Assassin's Creed certainly isn't as power hungry as 'even more real than real' Crysis, but it certainly isn't far off. If you've been waiting all this time and managed to hold off buying Assassin's Creed for the Xbox 360 or PS3 and are absolutely determined to play AC on PC: Then now is the time to get that upgrade you've been putting off for so long.

ACII works ok when I have all the graphics turned to the lowest settings, but there is still annoying lag in areas with lots of open environment, and during cut scenes. Theoretically my computer should make this game an amazing experience, both graphics and performance wise, shouldn't it? I have also tried GameBooster to stop all background programs during gameplay with no marked difference in performance. Whats going on here?

sorry i made a mistake, my friend just pointed out that your 9400 gt is actually only an entry level card, which basically changes my entire comment. gaming will be horrible on the 9400 and if you try to run a lot of games on it like asc, it will probably fry. and you won't run asc on it properly, even if you do manage to get it working.
If your pc is incapable of running Assassins creed if you aren't interested in purchasing an expensive upgrade you can use onlive which streams the game to your pc ridding yourself of upgrading your processor / graphics card periodically. the service is $4.99 a month and you have the option to purchase assassins creed
