It's Another New Year...
...but for what reason?
"Happy New Year!" That greeting will be said and heard for at least the first couple of weeks as a new year gets under way. But the day celebrated as New Year's Day in modern America was not always January 1.
ANCIENT NEW YEARS
The celebration of the new year is the oldest of all holidays. It was first observed in ancient Babylon about 4000 years ago. In the years around 2000 BC, the Babylonian New Year began with the first New Moon (actually the first visible cresent) after the Vernal Equinox (first day of spring).
The beginning of spring is a logical time to start a new year. After all, it is the season of rebirth, of planting new crops, and of blossoming. January 1, on the other hand, has no astronomical nor agricultural significance. It is purely arbitrary.
The Babylonian new year celebration lasted for eleven days. Each day had its own particular mode of celebration, but it is safe to say that modern New Year's Eve festivities pale in comparison.
The Romans continued to observe the new year in late March, but their calendar was continually tampered with by various emperors so that the calendar soon became out of synchronization with the sun.
In order to set the calendar right, the Roman senate, in 153 BC, declared January 1 to be the beginning of the new year. But tampering continued until Julius Caesar, in 46 BC, established what has come to be known as the Julian Calendar. It again established January 1 as the new year. But in order to synchronize the calendar with the sun, Caesar had to let the previous year drag on for 445 days.

Can you free roam with friends on ac2 in this u play thing
As a gamer and a huge fan of AC, I hope that Ubisoft doesn't screw up AC2! Sequel games, are either good or they stink (my opinion only), so I'm hoping that Ubisoft doesnt change very much of the original gameplay. I hope they expand it to have more cities and maybe some secret ones that after a while you can unlock, but not too many that the game seems like oblivion(yuck!). I hope that the game is a little harder to complete then the first, I personally thought that the game was too short and easy. The detail and the way the guards are suspicious are excellent as well as the AI. All-in-all, I'm excited for AC2 to come out, but also a little wary of it....
If Ubisoft comes here to see what gamers have to say, all I got to say is:
Please, Please don't mess up AC2 and thanks for the experience!
i have just bort the altairs sowed and when i loo on invontory it says i have this crap combat sword how do i byt the sword what i just bort for 40 k on ??
how do i equip it
I bought assassins creed recently and i really enjoyed it for a while. The free roaming was the most relaxing i've ever played in a game and the missions felt cool too. Killing was a bit easy though, I would love a harder game. A few more buttons for combat maybe? And I would love more weapons, more than the "wide variety of weapons". (which is what it said on the 1st game's box, describing the THREE weapons you get!)Also, I think you should be able to find your own hiding spaces. (Hiding in the shadows or behind statues etc...) And i can't wait...
its set in italy in venice, rome and some other places so that should be cool. also ac 1 was far to easy to complete and after youve completed it theres not much more to do. also they should add more weapons to it such as acrossow, a bow or a shield.
for cities they have, florence, venice and (some town)'s outskirts.
for weapons, they said there was a variety of them,(SWEET).
Confirmed,sword(duhh),axe,halabert,hiddenblade,2 hidden blades
* cross bow
i bought AC 1 and loved it would like harder gameplay, more mission variety, weapons
I hope Ezio will b less of a puppet than his predicessor, and the idea of a pet eagle to act as the carrier pigeons from AC1 would b a great idea. I would like to see the game b a lot harder and a huge variety of guard. I hope the guard will b insanely smart to what your doing and extremely hard to evade. The hiding spots need some work (get rid of benches and roof garden) and there needs to b a better variety. I'll enjoy the connection to Da Vinci and others, but I don't see how the Templers will fit in, (they were all executed in France) but I could see illuminati taking a huge role. Ebstergo was never prooved to b Templer so they can b illuminati! All in all I think this game will b so much better than AC1 but that's a great game too!
In assassins creed 2 i would like to be able to use a cross bow/ bow and arrow also i would like to see more counters available with the different weapons
Couple of things:
1. The new game supports 2-4 player online play! To see for yourself get the official ps3 box art and zoom in on the back... I hope its as good as it sounds.
2. Theres 100 missions for main story and 100 sub missions - whether there long or short I dont know.
3. In response to "English Cross" I believe ezzio is not origonaly an assassin but a noble forced to kill to get his revenge for murder of his pairents - not so much puppetry there me thinks.
this information is not difinatve - don't hold me too it :D
nate, if you would like to see some fighting with different weapons including pike and axe watch: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6y0k-pk84mY
Hey all,
I'm new and I promise I'm not trying to steal any thunder. Our site has the opportunity to speak with the dev team behind Assassin's Creed II and I was wondering if anyone had any questions they would like answered (serious questions, of course).
As we will be posting the finalized Q/A on our site, I would also post the answers on this site, so you don't have to leave this forum to find the answers (and so it doesn't look like we're rudely spamming this forum).
Anyway, please let me know before Friday EST if you have any questions you would like answered. You can email them to me at: nathan@digitalchumps.com
Cheers,

ac2 looks great setting wise. the story looks good and the graphics look stunning.but for the last one i hope they base it in ww2 that would be a logical next step. imagine an assassin creeping around basses killing oh i dont know marines. that might be cool. or the civil war no?
i hop the third one will be set in japan so you can be a ninja, that would be a sweet setting!
Please make it more RPG-ish, with a money system at leaste. I felt tha AC 1 couldent decide what it wanted to be but I hope that they have more RPG elements in general.
yes they do have a currency system in place
You should also drop the hole animus thing altogether. I know its WAY too late into production but maybe AC3? The games would be so good if you didnt keep getting pulled out of the story and the action to go to a place that dosnt even make sence (I mean is Altair's decendant, whatever his mane is, just watching the memory like a movie or is he controlling the past somehow or what, it dosnt make just snece) and then when you just want to wiut out of the game you have to leave the animus and that is just a pain in the ass. Also The horse back riding was annoying, having to travel for like 15 minutes consatanly being chases by guards just to get to the city is overkill.
wanker animus makes the game
ALSO there should be more stealth, The first AC failed in many ways but the biggest one was the assassinsations. no matter how much intel you collected they always ened up being just a "run up the the bad guy, pull out sword and press X until the cutscene" I want to watch my enemies ahead of time, figure out their paths and motives and then drop down from an arch as they walk under and assassinate them like that, not just run up to them and openly fight them. The new Assassin should be more ninja-ish, but like I said it may be too late in the dev. so maybe for AC3, IM a big fan of AC1 BTW, it had huge potential but it had many flaws
Look,if you want to see the gameplay of ac2 then go to youtube type in "assassins creed 2 demo".You will enjoy watching it!
I hope AC2 has combos, finishers, more dodging, athletics, more freeflow in the combat system, customization, mix match to create more user manifested movement and attacks and even a darkside with awesome abilities
Plus there could be some Roman Mythology mixed somewhere
If he could use like two swords at the same time And maybe this is kinda late but if the sword was at his back it will be kind of cooler and maybe a cloaking device, more human like and more assasn like abilities
Like Desmond could move and react freely with different interactions and with lots of people in the real world and also in the anmus and more platforming like standing, sitting, squating, swinging on a sword/pole/tubes/pipes probably on the side and it will be cool to have underwater combat
And perhaps the choice to increase the outfit to fit stealth, atack or defence plus a new running style will be nice and a cover system too, like using people in the public and soldiers as cover and hanging upside down will increase the assasin experience bigger longer leaps more blending activities like dancing, having a deep conversation or sleeping and a grab system with a nice controlling unit like god of war or prototype
And a hand to hand combat system with more defined and specific punching and kicking with excessive martial arts
two words that changes my world and yours
KRAV MAGA
can some1 tell my please if there wil be another AC 2 black edition in the netherlands becuse its all sold out and i realy want to buy it can someone tell me this?
Has anyone beat it yet? What do you think of the new game direction???
Assassins creed II is mint if someone got xbox live plz give my ur gamertag
hey . The part where you play as altair . You have to climb a tower while following what is supposed to be a target . Wen you get to him he enters the door and you start to scale the tower . Then you come to a ledge with a wooden pole and lantern . I cant get past that . Is ther a nack to it . Or is my game glitched . Any help would be great because its driving me mad . Thanks
all you have to do is get on that wooden pole, run along and jump, it took me a few tries but i got there, just look for grips before you jump, this scene makes the game fit in with the first one
this is way off topic i know... but whats the point in having trees in the game when you cant use them to climb? you can scale almost anything and everything but the trees, even in the second game. trees would be just as fun for stealth kills as the hay bales are, and as you fall from a height they would soften the landing or give you something to grab onto. aside from that the game is freekin awsome
