Assassins Creed PC Patch On Way

Published by Dark Drakan on April 22, 2008 Comments

A patch for the PC version of Ubisofts award winning Assassins Creed is on the way to fix numerous game crashing issues the game has been suffering from. However this patch will also remove DirectX 10.1 support from the game.

Ubisoft is preparing a patch for the PC version of Assassin’s Creed that will address a number of game-crashing issues that plagued its release - and remove DirectX 10.1 support.

In the past two weeks, players have reported numerous problems, ranging from unnecessarily long exit times to the game conking out whilst trying to connect to an Ubisoft IP address every couple of seconds.

According to Ubisoft’s website, the company doesn’t have an exact date for the release of the patch but says “we’re hard at work and hope to have further updates soon.”

Unfortunately, the patch will also remove support for DirectX 10.1, so Ubisoft can tweak it.

Assassins Creed DS delayed in EU

Published by Dark Drakan on March 14, 2008 2 Comments

Another delay hits PC and DS versions.

PC gamers and handheld players will have to wait two weeks longer than originally anticipated for the PC port of Assassin’s Creed and the DS spin-off, Altair’s Chronicles.

Both originally dated for February, Ubisoft previously delayed them until March 28, only to now move them further back to April 11.

Speculation suggests that they may have been pushed back to fall into the fiscal year of 2008-2009, but no explanation has been reported by Ubisoft so far.

Feedback Improves PC Version Of Assassins Creed

Published by Dark Drakan on March 4, 2008 Comments

Ubisoft have been looking at the comments and criticisms of its award winning title Assassins Creed on consoles and making some changes for the highly awaited PC version. Seems they have listened to the fans about the repetitiveness of the investigation missions and added some more for the PC crowd.

The console original was criticised for a lack of variety once you progress into the game. Ubisoft is trying to iron out the complaints with four new investigation types.

And they are; Archer assassination, rooftop race challenge, merchant stand destruction challenge and escort challenge.

In the words of Technical Lead Charles Beauchemin: “The archer assassination requires the player to assassinate the archers in a dedicated zone without being seen. In the rooftop race challenge, the player will meet an informer and will have a set amount of time to reach a second informer.

“In the merchant stand destruction, some merchants have ties to the assassination target and their activities must be stopped by Altaïr. Finally, in the escort challenge, the player needs to securely escort a fellow Assassin from point A to point B.

“We included 4 new investigation missions to increase the variety so in total, we now have a total of 9 investigation missions. Also, you can now skip from one city to another without going through the kingdom once you visited every city.”

Sounds like they’re doing their jobs then. Beauchemin also notes that Ubisoft has “modified the reaction of guards in certain occasions,” such as “blending when close to a dead body”.
“Also,” he says, “the reaction of the guards to stealth assassination is now based on the number of NPC around you making it more realistic. If there is no one around you, guards will spot you much faster and if the crowd is bigger, you won’t be spotted that fast.”
